UCSF MyAccess Project

Overview

In support of the UCSF Strategic Plan initiative to improve access and delivery of information technology services, the Office of Academic and Administrative Information Systems (OAAIS) will be working closely with our Campus colleagues to establish MyAccess profiles for all applicable faculty, staff and students, beginning this November, 2008.

One of the biggest challenges with today's technological advances is remembering the multitude of IDs and passwords to access services. Security is often compromised when people record logins and passwords by writing them on sticky notes, for example, thus exposing them to unauthorized use.

MyAccess is an account system that will bring the Campus community closer to using one user ID and one password for all computer systems. Over time, members of the community will use their MyAccess account for more and more services, which means fewer logins and passwords to keep track of.

Our goals for the MyAccess service are to:

  • Improve the customer experience by reducing the number of logins and passwords that our clients have to remember, and to unite access to services by using the single MyAccess gateway;
  • Strengthen security by improving management of the account life-cycle and removing access in a timely manner; and
  • Reduce system support costs by reducing the Help Desk calls for password resets, eliminating the need to manage accounts and passwords in other systems throughout the campus.

Implementation

The Virtual Private Network (vpn@UCSF) and Campus Wireless are two of the first services for which you will use your MyAccess ID and password, and implementation will begin November 17, starting with pilot departments.  Provisioning will be a collaborative effort between departmental representatives and OAAIS.  Customer Support Services (CSS) team members will be contacting departmental representatives immediately, to schedule and begin the implementation process.

We are working with several of our colleagues to plan the integration of other systems in 2009, such as PeopleSoft and WebLinks, the MySoft Online billing and the Connexxus Travel Portal.

As services are added to the MyAccess gateway, campus community members will receive email notifications containing their MyAccess ID and temporary password.  Our vision is to have the majority of the campus community using their MyAccess ID by the end of June 2009. For further information please visit the OAAIS Service Catalog MyAccess page.
