iPhone ActiveSync Configuration
With the release of the iPhone 2.0 software upgrade, wireless mail, calendar and contact synchronization are now possible.
The iPhone ActiveSync configuration uses the same account credentials as when you log in to the web mail client (OWA) at exchange.ucsf.edu. For illustrative purposes we are using the account ‘Demoacct, Jane’ as an example. Please substitute your actual account credentials when setting up your iPhone.
Activate your iPhone using Apple's "Getting Started" instructions before you set up your Exchange configuration.
- Activation requires installation of the most recent version of iTunes on
your mac or PC. Additionally, software updates and back-ups/restorations require
a cabled connection of your device to this computer. We recommend performing
these steps on the computer you use most frequently.
From the iPhone Home menu, choose the Settings icon.

-
From the Settings menu, choose Mail, Contacts, Calendars

-
Select the "Add Account..." option

-
Choose the Microsoft Exchange option

In the appropriate fields, enter the following information.
On the first screen:
-
Email address = Jane.Demoacct@ucsf.edu
-
Username = campus\jdemoacct
-
Password = your password
-
Description = any meaningful title you wish to use to identify the account, for example: mail@UCSF<
-
Once you have entered your data, tap the Next button to begin the verification process...

Your screen should look like this...

-
You will be prompted to enter the server name
Enter exchange.ucsf.edu, then tap the Next button to continue...

-
Choose which objects; Email, Contacts, Calendars, will be synchronized. Once you have made your selection, click the Save button.

-
You can go back into your account settings and confirm that your configuration matches this image.

Functions that are not supported are:
- Folder Management
- Access to files shares or SharePoint sites
- Task synchronization
- Creating meeting invitations
- Message flagging
Important:
- Only one Exchange account can be configured on a device
- Once you are synching with Exchange via ActiveSync you cannot synchronize a personal calendar or address book via iTunes.
