Outlook 2003 - Junk Email Filter
- From the Tools menu, click Options, and click the Junk Email button on the Preferences tab. The Junk Email Options dialog box appears.
Read the descriptions of the various levels to determine which setting is best for you. The more restrictive the setting, the greater the chance that you will capture legitimate mail as well as junk email. For this reason, we reccommend not checking the option to delete suspected junk email instead of moving it to the the Junk Email folder.
Marking a Message as Not Junk
- In the Junk Email folder, select the message that you want to mark as Not Junk. From the toolbar, clicking the Not Junk button will open the Mark as Not Junk dialog box.
To add the sender to your Safe Senders list, make sure that the "Always trust email..." check box is selected.
Deleting Junk Email Messages
To delete a single message from the Junk Email folder, select it and click Delete from the toolbar.
By right clicking on the Junk Email Folder in the Navigation Pane and clicking Empty Junk Email, you can delete all the messages in the folder at once. Holding down the SHIFT key while clicking Empty Junk Email Folder will permantly delete the messages.
Use Safe or Blocked Lists
There is a difference between the Safe Senders list and the Safe Recipients list.
Adding someone to your Safe Senders list will allow any message from that person to pass directly into your Inbox without being filtered.
There are times when you are not the only person on the To line, or when your name does not appear on the To line, as in a Distribution List. In these cases you will want to add the recipient's name to the Safe Recipient list to prevent these messages from being treated as junk email.
Modifying Safe or Blocked Lists
Right-click on a message that you want to add to a list; highlight the Junk Email option to select which list you want to add the person to.
You can add a name or an email domain directly to your blocked list by following these steps:
On the Tools menu, click Options, and click the Junk Email button on the Preferences tab to open the Junk Email Options dialog box.
Click the tab for the Blocked Items list.
Click Add, type the name or domain that you want on the list, and click OK.
