Outlook 2007 Web Proxy Configuration
Step 7 The Exchange server information in step 7 has been updated to reflect new configuration settings for connecting to Exchange 2007.**
Desktop requirements
- Windows XP or Windows Vista
- Outlook 2007 (part of the MS Office 2007 for Windows software suite)
- 500 MHz processor or higher
- Minimum 256 MB of RAM
- 1.5 GB of hard-disk space
- CD-ROM or DVD drive
Configuration Recommendations
- Web proxy connection allows connecting to your mail@ucsf account without a VPN connection when not on the UCSF network
- The initial synchronization of your mail account can take a considerable amount of time depending on the amount of mail in your account
- Recommended that this configuration be used in cached mode
- Recommended for DSL or cable modem connections only
- Not recommended for dialup connections; use Outlook Web Access for dialup connections
Setting up the Outlook 2007 Web Proxy Connection
- From within Outlook, go to the Tools menu and select
Email Accounts... Select Add a new email account (Microsoft
Exchange Server) or View or change existing e-mail accounts. In either case, the
profile must have the Exchange Server service as part of the profile Click the
Next button.

- Select your mail@ucsf Account and click the Change button.

- In the Microsoft Exchange Server field, enter
exvs06.net.ucsf.edu. In the User name field,
enter your name using the format: Last, (space) First. You
MUST select “Use Cached Exchange Mode” Click
the More Settings.. button.

- Click on the Advanced tab. Verify that "Use Cached
Exchange Mode" and "Download shared Folders" are
selected.

- Click on the Security tab. Set the Logon network security
to "Negotiate Authentication."

- Now select the Connection tab and click the
“Connect to my Exchange mailbox using HTTP” checkbox. Then
click the the Exchange Proxy Settings button.

- **Configure the proxy settings to match those in the following
image.
- In the "Use this URL to connect to my proxy server for Exchange" field, enter: exchange.ucsf.edu;
- Click the checkbox "Connect using SSL only";
- Click the checkbox "On slow networks, connect using HTTP first, then connect using TCP/IP";
- Under the Proxy Authentication settings, choose NTLM Authentication from the drop-down menu;
- Click the OK button.

- Click the Next button, and then click the Finish
button.

- When you launch Outlook you will be prompted for your account credentials.
In the User name field, enter your account username
in the format: campus\username. In the
Password field, enter your account password. Click the
OK button.

- Initial synchronization will vary. Be patient.
