Using the OAAIS-operated BlackBerry Enterprise Server

OAAIS BlackBerry services provides mobile access to email, calendaring and contact information. Using a BlackBerry personal information manager in combination with a BlackBerry Enterprise Server, customers with an OAAIS mail@UCSF account can receive email and maintain their calendar and contacts.

Additional information on available BlackBerry units can be found at: http://blackberry.net/.

Here's how it works:

  1. To get an overview and the specifications of various BlackBerry models visit http://www.blackberry.net/products/handhelds/index.shtml.
  2. Contact the service provider of your choice to purchase the Blackberry model that fits your needs. The OAAIS BlackBerry Enterprise Server will work with BlackBerry units from AT&T/Cingular, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile (NOTE: Non-BlackBerry PDAs are not supported).
  3. As soon as you receive your BlackBerry, contact OAAIS Customer Support to establish your account.
  4. Each customer will be charged a one-time fee of $80 for one BlackBerry Exchange Enterprise Server User License.
  5. There is a monthly service charge of $5.00 for ongoing support for a BlackBerry Enterprise Service account.
  6. The one-time license fee and monthly recharge are billing to departmental recharge accounts (not to individuals).
  7. The OAAIS mail@ucsf support team will contact you or your Computer Support Coordinator (CSC) to activate your device once your account has been established.
  8. BlackBerry Enterprise devices are subject to UCSF-wide security standards.
  9. Use these Configuration Instructions to set up your new BlackBerry unit.
  10. Report your lost or stolen BlackBerry

Using Active Sync Services

Handheld devices using Microsoft's ActiveSync protocol provide access to email, calendaring and contact information. For more information on the ActiveSync based mobile device that works best for you, contact your cellular phone service provider.

All ActiveSync devices require the purchase of both voice and data plans.

Here's how it works:

  1. Contact the service provider of your choice to purchase the device and service plan that best fit your needs.
  2. Activate your device based on the manufacturer's instructions.
  3. The ActiveSync protocol is disabled by default on all mail@UCSF accounts. Please submit a request to activate ActiveSync for your mail@UCSF email account prior to connecting your device.
  4. There are no additional service charges associated with a Windows Mobile device's Active Sync Services.
  5. All ActiveSync based devices are subject to UCSF-wide security standards.
  6. OAAIS has set up specific configuration instructions for Windows 8525 Mobile Devices and Apple iPhones.
  7. Report your lost or stolen ActiveSync device.
