New ActiveSync and BlackBerry Enterprise Security Measures

UCSF’s CIO Group recently approved enterprise-wide security standards for both BlackBerry Enterprise and devices that use ActiveSync (a Microsoft mail synchronization standard) to access Exchange accounts. These standards will be implemented in phases over the next few months. Detailed information on the security standards and the implementation schedule can be found on the OAAIS web site.

Significant Dates:

Effective August 11, new ActiveSync connections will be enabled on request only for Campus Exchange users. Existing ActiveSync customers will be automatically registered.

On September 4, password policies will be imposed on all devices using ActiveSync to connect to Exchange servers in the Campus, School of Medicine and Medical Center domains.

On September 10, password policies will be imposed on BlackBerry Enterprise devices connecting to Exchange servers in the Campus domain.

If you have concerns regarding the impact of these changes, please contact OAAIS Customer Support at 415-514-4100, option 2.
