Campus Revenue Generation Models
Jon distributed a proposal for the creation of a Data and Voice Services Advisory Committee and a proposed membership roster (attached). The Committee will be charged shortly and is expected to produce recommendations for data and voice service revenue generation models by the end of the calendar year. Larry Lotenero suggested the CIO group convene a special session to discuss the current financial situation, revenue models and how to present the issues to different audiences.
ACTION ITEM: Jon to schedule a special session of the CIO group.
OAAIS Updates
OAAIS is 15 months old. Heidi Schmidt was hired to replace Ian Tuller. Jane Wong’s group, which was in the Controller’s Office, is now the Application Services unit in OAAIS. Andrew Wissmiller now heads a unit called Information Technology Services. A new unit, Academic Research Systems (ARS) – directed by Michael Kamerick – is about to launch a Secure Data Environment service for investigators. ARS is also working on an Integrated Data Repository. Shahla Raissi was hired as Director of Business Resources Management. The PMO hired Candice Poolman in the position of Associate Director, Academic Information Systems.
The 654 Minnesota Street data center project is on track. Office occupants will move in next May or June. The Data Center move may take place in November or December, 2008. NGMAN negotiations are nearing completion.
Work on TIM/TAM continues. A new email advisory group will meet next week.
Medical Center Updates
The Medical Center IT has been reorganized into three vertically integrated units focused on clinical applications, business applications and enterprise IT services. There is a new PMO director, John Reaves.
Larry reported Internal Audit was dissatisfied with the IS-10 compliance of a recent development project.
School of Medicine Updates
Opinder Bawa is reorganizing the ISU to be “flatter.” Two assistant directors are currently being recruited – one for application development and one for project management. Plans are underway for portal-based application environments. Approximately 45 SOM/ISU staff will move to 654 Minnesota Street.
Library Update
Ann Dobson – formerly at UC Berkeley – has accepted the position of Director, Academic Information Systems, in the Library.
IT Governance Committee
The September ITC meeting has been canceled. Kris Hafner and Dan Greenstein have been invited to attend either the October or November meeting to discuss the system-wide IT Guidance Committee, of which Jon Showstack and Eric Vermillion are members. Jon, Randy and Mara Fellouris are developing some ideas about a possible simplification of the UCSF campus IT governance structure.
IT Roadmap
Opinder suggested a special session to discuss the IT roadmaps of each division to find points of intersection – “actualization of the Venn diagram.”
ACTION ITEM: Discuss logistics at the next CIO meeting.
Proposed IT Security Policies
ACTION ITEM: Heidi will check with Carl Tianen to find out when new information security policies and associated analysis will be available for review by the CIO Group.
