IT Governance Structure

Randy Lopez distributed a diagram of the updated proposed IT governance process.

ACTION ITEM: CIO Group will hold a four-hour retreat, to be scheduled some time in next four week, to work out a new IT governance structure; Don Diettinger will be asked to moderate.

Medical Center

Pagers

Larry Lotenero provided background on the logistical difficulties the Medical Center is having coordinating multiple pager numbers.  Randy suggested they explore the new system being implemented by Campus Police’s Emergency Operation Center to see if there could be two tie-backs, one for pager numbers and one for employee IDs; pagers or employees not accounted for could be tracked on an individual basis.

Web Presence

There was a discussion on the importance of getting faculty and staff to adhere to policy regarding web site content and usage, and the inability to implement a successful communications plan to make them aware of the policies and protocols in place. The consensus was we can provide the information but the responsibility to follow guidelines remained with the faculty.

Wireless

The Medical Center is assessing whether it could use a dual-network phone system that has a relatively seamless transfer between the Medical Center network and the carrier network. A significant issue is authentication. There was a question about the possibility of integrating such a system into MyAccess. Phones would need to be symbian-based, like T-Mobile; Vocera is entirely 802.11-based; the Medical Center is also exploring Devitis, which is dual 802.11 and cell-based.  It was agreed that it would be a worthwhile exercise to jointly sponser a small scale test between campus and medical center IT to determine whether the new wireless authentication protocol being rolled out on campus using my access could be utilized with the Med Center's new phone technology.

NGMAN and Campus Wireless Updates

The initial move into the offices at 654 Minnesota by CPFM and SOM ISU will occur in September/October 2008. The space for the Data Center is expected to be available in late February 2009. It appears that NGMAN connection to 654 Minnesota may not become available until fall 2009. OAAIS is in discussions with AT&T to assure the appropriate network connection capacity for the initial offices and subsequently for the Data Center.

Telemedicine

Karen Butter reported they are moving ahead with the initial phases of the build-out of the second floor of the Library for teaching space, with bids going out this fall and construction to begin in 2009. Karen and Helen Loeser created a committee to help coordinate and optimize the development and implementation of the projects of the various organizations that will be using this spaces. Patty Mitchell is the Project Manager, but there is no official Executive Sponsor as yet.
